East of Eden
I just finished reading John Steinbeck's East of Eden and I have to say that I have not read a book that was better. It was as powerful as Gospel and wise as a life-changing experience. And heavy as a dictionary--which is a good thing if you like a book because then it takes so much longer to end. I'm pretty much at a loss for words to describe how good it was. Do yourself a favor and check it out if you haven't already. And after all it was "The book that brought Oprah's Book Club back."

If *I* could make a literary recommendation on *your* blog, I would pimp the classic 1946 book "All The King's Men", which I only just read this past summer. It's chock-full of all sorts of great material, and it's 400+ pages as well. So you can use it as a lethal weapon if someone breaks into your house...it's that good.
Doesn't young Steinbeck look like Paul Walker with big ears?
I hate Paul Walker, but I have to admit, in this picture I can see it.
