First day of (grad) school

And you thought the 10,000 hit celebration wouldn't ever end...

It's 7:30am or so and I am unable to fall back asleep. A loud beeping sound has been going on outside my window for roughly the past five minutes. The various farts and burps of machinery and construction mark the time in between beeps. I attempt to pull the pillows over my ears, but to no avail -- I'm wide awake, staring at the pattern of my blanket. But maybe it's not the noise keeping me awake. Maybe it's because I'm anxious.

Yeah, that's it...

Still, today marks a big day -- my return, after a one year hiatus, to that safe alternate reality called college, more specifically for me called MFA grad school. I join thousands across the land also reentering the academic environs. There are many possible reasons: the love and continuing of education. To better oneself. To gawk at sorority girls. To find a lawyer-husband. But let's be honest here: we're all back because we couldn't find a job.

Orientation starts at two.

Me, modelling this season's back-to-school attire. (Pants, $25 US dollar, Ross Dress For Less; tie, $7.99, Columbia student bookstore; blazer, $6.75, street vendor, Times Square).

My caption for that photo (assuming it's not you):

"Hi, let me take the next thirty minutes to tell you about the money you could make in the real-estate business. Trust me, you won't be sorry."

if you saw what's been getting left on my comments, you'd censor too.

in a weird way i appreciate and am amused by such responses to my writing, but i've gotten into trouble about this before and thus, am playing it safe. i'll send you the offending comments though if you'd like, since the poster obviously didn't mind people reading.

what's been making me laugh is what i have to "administrate". i'm apparently hot stuff. particulary if you are gay, hang around the Columbia area, and read blogs.

Well, two out of three...I don't hang around Columbia ;-p

Wait, what did I just admit to?
